Introduction for Today's Task
Your Skill Learning Plan
Hello BVisionRYs!
Thank you for attending and participating in our first workshop (Learning Activation Bay); I enjoyed our learning time together!
During this workshop we covered the following:
- The meaning & power of a Baby-Step Approach
- Worked on prioritizing your first skill to learn from your LDP
- We explaining what is a Tool
- Set your 30 minutes learning time
- Built your learning plan
- Discussed how you build a habit
- Went through the power of consistency
Now it is time for you to put what you learned into practice. Because remember, if you do not put what you learned in practice, your tools will rust!
The purpose of this task:
This assignment is designed to help you bridge the gap between theory and practice by embracing a growth mindset. This mindset is the core belief that you can achieve things and overcome challenges not by innate talent, but by continuously learning and developing new skills.
By focusing on the baby-step approach, you'll take a single, specific tool and apply it in a real-world situation. Each small action builds confidence and reinforces the idea that your abilities are not fixed, instead they can be developed and strengthened with consistent effort.
The goal is to build the habit of continuous, sustainable growth, which is a foundational skill for any leader. This is how you move from simply knowing what to do to actively becoming the leader you aspire to be.
The process for completing this task:
This assignment is a direct application of what we covered in our first workshop. The goal is to get your learning momentum going by focusing on small, consistent steps.
You have five working days to complete this assignment. Remember, the goal is to dedicate just 30 minutes a day to this process, a minimal effective dose to build a new habit with sustainable flow.
This is a continuous learning process. The plan you create is a living document that you will share with BVisionRY for us to check in on your progress and support your journey.
Your Task:
1.Gather Materials: Using the AI prompt we discussed, collect your learning materials for your #1 prioritized skill. You need to gather 50 articles, 30 videos, and 20 podcasts.
Your AI Prompt:
Task: Act as a research assistant to gather learning materials on a specified topic. Your goal is to find the most relevant, high-quality resources available.
Instructions:
- Find and provide links to 50 authoritative articles.
- Find and provide links to 30 highly-rated videos from platforms like YouTube.
- Find and provide links to 20 popular podcasts or podcast episodes.
- Ensure all links are active and functional.
- Do not include any duplicate links.
- Format your final output as a clear list of links under three headings: "Articles," "Videos," and "Podcasts."
Please provide the learning materials for this topic: [Insert the specific skill here]
2. Choose a Tool: Go through the materials you've gathered and identify at least one tool or technique that resonates with you. This is something you can try in the real world to practice your new skill.
If you wish, AI may help you out with this and extract the tools from the learning material for you. Here is a prompt for you to use:
Task: Act as a research assistant for a participant in a leadership development program. Your goal is to analyze the provided learning material to identify specific, actionable tools that I can practice in order to learn the skill for a skills development assignment.
Definition of a "Tool": A tool is not a theory; it's a specific, repeatable action you can use to practice a skill in a real-world situation.
Example: If the skill is Active Listening, a tool is Paraphrasing because it's a specific action you can take in a conversation to practice active listening.
Instructions:
- Analyze the provided content, which includes the articles, videos, and podcasts listed below.
- Identify all distinct, actionable tools or strategies for the target skill.
- For each tool, provide a clear explanation of what it is.
- For each tool, provide a brief, step-by-step "how-to" guide on how a beginner can start practicing it immediately.
- List the original source (article, video, or podcast) for each tool. If a tool is a common practice (e.g., Meditation), note "General Practice" as the source.
- Format the final output as a CSV file with the following headers: Tool, Explanation, How-To Use it, and Source. The response should be concise and focused on the tools, explanations, how-to use it, and source information. Do not include any theory or general information. I want each one of these requests presented in a different column.
- I want you to come up with all the tools, do not exclude any
Material to be Analyzed:
[ADD HERE THE SKILL AND THE LEARNING MATERIALS TO BE ANALYZED]
You will receive the information as a text. The trick is to copy the raw text from the file and then use a specific function in Google Sheets that recognizes the commas as column separators.
Here's a step-by-step guide to get the data into separate columns:
- Select All Text: Highlight and copy all the content from the file on the right side of your screen.
- Open a New Google Sheet: Go to Google Sheets and create a new, blank spreadsheet.
- Paste the Data: Click on the first cell (A1) and paste the copied text. The entire list will likely be pasted into that single column. Don't worry, this is the first step.
- Split the Text into Columns: With the first column still selected, go to the Google Sheets menu and click on Data > Split text to columns. Make sure that you select one cell at a time.
- Choose the Separator: A small pop-up window will appear. It will likely automatically detect that the text is separated by commas. If it doesn't, click the dropdown menu and select Comma.
3. Create Your Practice Plan: In your shared Google Sheet, describe exactly how you will apply the tool. Be specific about the situations or interactions you will use it in.
- Example: If your skill is active listening and your tool is paraphrasing, your practice plan could be to use this tool in your next meeting with a specific person at work.
4. Record Your Observations: After you've tried the tool, go back to your Google Sheet and add your comments and observations. What happened? What did you notice? How did the interaction feel?
By completing this assignment, you are not just building a plan, you are actively creating a habit of continuous growth, one small step at a time.
The work you will submit:
Your submission for this second assignment will be the "Skill Learning Plan" tab in your existing LDP Google Sheet.
Instructions:
Step One- Final Review: Take a moment to review all fields to ensure they are complete. The sheet saves automatically.
Step Two- Submit Your Work:
- Click the "Share" button in the top right corner of your master LDP Google Sheet.
- Change the sharing setting from "Restricted" to "Anyone with the link."
- Set the access to "Editor."
- Click "Copy link" and paste it into the Lighthouse submission portal.
Looking forward to supporting you on your learning journey!
